Geothermal System Installation
The Appleton Public Library is entering a new chapter in its construction both visibly and behind the scenes (underground).
The Library is being built to be heated and cooled by a geothermal system instead of fossil fuel. DeKalb Mechanical is installing a well field and header piping to make this happen. There are 70 wells placed 450 feet deep (under the library parking lot). Each set of 10 wells is connected to loops that contain a water/glycol mix that travels through the system to heat or cool the building.
On the outside, the building’s look is coming together with the installation of metal panels and windows, and about half the roof is now on. Inside, painting continues, casework is arriving and being installed and MEP is in progress. By month’s end, the Library will have permanent electrical power as well.

DEMOLITION
Demolition is well underway. The lower-level ceiling and walls are gone. On the ground floor, the ceiling, lights and most walls have been removed. Finally, the second-floor ceiling tiles, lights, and aluminum storefront frames were also removed. Sustainable construction is fundamental at Boldt, with waste management being part of the standard construction services. On this project Restore will repurpose paper product dispensers, soap dispensers, etc. Some items will be removed and reused by the City’s Facilities Department or where needed. For example, brick and concrete will be crushed for road base material.
